Addition Vs Condensation Polymerization

In polymer chemistry, a reaction by which smaller molecules (called monomers) react with each other to form a larger molecule (called polymers), is called "Polymerization". There are two types of Polymerization processes in polymer chemistry and these are-
(1) Addition Polymer
(2) Condensation Polymer

Let's compare them one by one based on their formation, molecular weight, functionality, no. of monomer used, etc.
Comparation between Addition and Condensation polymerization
(1) Addition polymerization is the process of adding unsaturated monomers to form an addition polymer. While Condensation polymerization is the process of combining monofunctional, bifunctional and trifunctional monomers to form a condensate polymer.
(2) No formation of by-products in addition polymer whereas by-products are formed in condensation polymerization.
(3) In addition polymerization, molecular weight of a resultant polymer is a multiple of monomer's molecular weight whereas in condensation polymerization, molecular weight of a resultant polymer is not a multiple of
monomer's molecular weight.
(4) Addition polymerization is a rapid process whereas condensation polymerization is a slow process.
(5) In addition polymerization, the monomer should be unsaturated (having functionality more than one) whereas in condensation polymerization, monomers should be saturated.
(6) In addition polymerization, high molecular weight polymers are formed while in condensation polymerization, low molecular weight polymers are formed.
(7) In addition polymerization, only a single type monomer is used whereas in condensation polymerization, two types of monomers are used.
(8) Polymers formed by the addition polymerization is thermoplastic whereas the Polymers formed by the condensation polymerization is thermosetting.
(9) Empirical formula is same as that of monomer for addition polymerization whereas empirical formula is different from the constituent monomers.
(10) Addition polymerization examples- polyethylene, poly-vinyl chloride, polypropylene, etc...
Whereas the condensation polymerization examples are- Polyesters, Poly-amides, cellulose, starch, etc...
